Just when the crew’s smooth-talking connections seemed to be buoying them to the top, the city reminded them just how fickle its relationships can be. Out of everyone involved in the Domingo-Rachel scandal going on behind Ben’s back, Kappo is the only one who even considers sharing the news. The others are clearly uncomfortable, but they’d much rather avoid the issue than risk disturbing their delicate balance of easygoing brotherhood. Yet as Kappo knows all too well, keeping up appearances when your whole foundation is crumbling is harder than it seems. Plagued by the possibility of insider trading charges and the pressure of delivering a wedding toast, he resorts to copious usage of Domingo’s new THC spray in order to loosen up. Both his resulting speech and confiding conversation with Ben go well, but even that’s not enough to calm his nerves. In a city where status is everything, Kappo’s potential poverty may well turn him into an outcast. By the end of the episode it would appear that Ben might be headed there too, suddenly alienated from all of his close friends over the hook-up drama. While it’s heartwarming to hear that he and Kappo will be watching out for each other, it’s also sad that it’s not just a given. Strong friendships are incredibly important in a city that demands so much, but lately it seems that they’re becoming harder to find.
